My Birthday Pressie at last!

My wedding fell on my birthday too. For days, I hounded the Husband about my pressie. After all, I am still a girl at heart who wants to be pampered with gifts. My beloved sisters presented me with a cute soft toy and a couple mug. But…where’s my hubby??? Well, granted that he was very busy with our wedding, and he was afraid to get something that I didn’t like…he asked me what I liked. Sigh, so unromantic. Heck, I announced I wanted a bag. Not those from the malls but a designer bag. So we went shopping for one today.

Thank you Hubby! I assure you this kinda pressies, will be …. rare, annually okie? Haha!

Amazing Weekend, Dreadful Monday

For the first time, the Husband cooked breakfast for me on a Sunday. Wah.

For the first time in a very long while, we went to KTV together (with his bunch of very crazy army friends).

And we got more housewarming gifts including 4 Ritzenhoff draft beer glasses and 1 large champagne. (I continue to marvel at the generosity of friends).

We ate ourselves silly on Canadian Pizzas for 2 consecutive days and watched more anime on Sunday.

We ate some nice Korean food at Far East and I would love to visit again.

But it poured on Monday morning and my legs, for some reason, felt like lead pillars. Am feeling lethargic too and work is well, demanding. At least, LLMD is a nice break.

I feel lazy, I feel like escaping. Uh oh.

Housewarming 11th Oct 08

Our house never held more than 10 people at one time until yesterday. Housewarming started at 3pm and the place started to get crowded before 6. While The Husband was happily explaining to everyone how our “IKEA showflat” came about, I was contented to watch many movies in the living room with some good friends.

I hope no one came down with food poisoning or whatsoever, since I cooked the beehoon, muffins and cake. When it comes to food and personally cooked by the hostess, I guess we locals got a lot to talk about. Beehoon not salty enough, cake a bit too hard. Ok, I didn’t get negative views of the muffins. Hey, it’s all wheat-free, diary-free, stuffs that can give your digestive system a break. But I guess, we just prefer real butter and milk. Melamine or not. But it did get me thinking about presentation.

The Husband and I were once again bewildered by the generosity of our guests, like how it happened during our solemnization. This time, we were presented with some 250 bucks worth of Harvey Norman vouchers, a juicer, an aromatherapy diffuser from Crabtree and Evelyn, a Lana chocolate cake (you gotta pre-order this!), Gobi macarrons with dessert wine, Beard Papa cream puffs, pancakes, a carton of wine glasses, many bottles of red wine, ice wine and even Chivas. Thank you! They just answered our wishes for another fan (for the kitchen), a hard disk, a well-stocked winery and refrigerator.

No matter how tiring it is to host a gathering, (considering I had to wake up early to cook, clean like mad the day before, and about to clean like mad again later), I do look forward to the next one. It always feels warm.

Spaces in Your Togetherness

ilane and I were just discussing marriage some days back. When I chanced upon this poem, I finally got the idea about balance.

On Marriage
Kahlil Gibran

You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.
You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days.
Ay, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another, but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.

Give your hearts, but not into each other’s keeping.
For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.
And stand together yet not too near together:
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow.

love immortalized

You Have Stolen My Heart

After many burnt weekends scouring the island for furnishings, cleaning and doing up the house, we finally got to date!

We made it just in time to watch Wall-E at Kallang Leisure Park, then browsed the shops there and discovered a really cool house phone. Kinda like Phillip Starck-inspired sleek minimalistic design.

Then we went to Brewerkz. Wow, more than 10 years after it has opened in Singapore, have I finally got to try it! And we really pampered ourselves. All thoughts of wheat-free, diary-free diet were thrown out for the night.

drink up!

And then we walked from the suspension bridge, across to Tanjong Rhu, fancying the condominums, around my old school, caught every last bus headed for home.

Sweet.

Directions to MacDonalds

I was just msn-ing The Husband, who is on night shift, that I am hungry and craving for nuggets from Mac. It is usally kind of infuriating to hint to him that I need some pampering, that while I am fully capable of buying it online, I very much prefer him to buy for me before coming back home. After some time, he got the idea but was clueless where to buy. So much for working in town area and not knowing where the nearest Mac is. So the typical geek way is to check online. He went to this site http://www.gothere.sg.

And guess what.

The instructions read:

  1. It’s just a short walk away. Come on, don’t be lazy, walking is a good form of exercise. Walk to Capital Square.

Man, I feel vindicated.
