Our house never held more than 10 people at one time until yesterday. Housewarming started at 3pm and the place started to get crowded before 6. While The Husband was happily explaining to everyone how our “IKEA showflat” came about, I was contented to watch many movies in the living room with some good friends.
I hope no one came down with food poisoning or whatsoever, since I cooked the beehoon, muffins and cake. When it comes to food and personally cooked by the hostess, I guess we locals got a lot to talk about. Beehoon not salty enough, cake a bit too hard. Ok, I didn’t get negative views of the muffins. Hey, it’s all wheat-free, diary-free, stuffs that can give your digestive system a break. But I guess, we just prefer real butter and milk. Melamine or not. But it did get me thinking about presentation.
The Husband and I were once again bewildered by the generosity of our guests, like how it happened during our solemnization. This time, we were presented with some 250 bucks worth of Harvey Norman vouchers, a juicer, an aromatherapy diffuser from Crabtree and Evelyn, a Lana chocolate cake (you gotta pre-order this!), Gobi macarrons with dessert wine, Beard Papa cream puffs, pancakes, a carton of wine glasses, many bottles of red wine, ice wine and even Chivas. Thank you! They just answered our wishes for another fan (for the kitchen), a hard disk, a well-stocked winery and refrigerator.
No matter how tiring it is to host a gathering, (considering I had to wake up early to cook, clean like mad the day before, and about to clean like mad again later), I do look forward to the next one. It always feels warm.
